So far, my college process has been going great. I have become a better writer thanks to this class. When the year started I was lost since I had no clue how to put my words into an essay format. In this course, I was able to fully express my ideas in an essay format and become a better writer. At the beginning of the semester, I realized that even though I had many ideas and stories I could put into an essay the essay process was a little challenging for me. Since I started high school, one of my dreams has always been to draft short stories and good essays.
At the course’s beginning, we were focusing on reading strategies along with rhetorical analysis strategies, leading to us being able to end up writing a language and literacy narrative. The tools we used were extraordinarily strong and helped me understand more about issues related to language along with the fact that there is a huge case of inequality and differences in our society. We learned how to break down narratives some well-known authors wrote and to learn Ethos, Logos, and Pathos and how to use them in an essay. This stage makes the students focus on different works of literature and be able to understand what makes the writing strong. At this stage, I didn’t persevere as much because I am barely a first-year student and did not know any skills to improve my writing. I used to write everything that came to my head which led to me making many run-on sentences and not knowing when to end a sentence.
Shortly after, phase #2 started. In this stage of our course, we were furthering our understanding of rhetorical appeals as well as how and when they’re used. We dived into many different examples in which the appeal varied and made it a little bit challenging for us to discover. We went through strategies on how to write a Rhetorical analysis essay and tools to make our essay strong and outstanding. We went through earlier students’ essays related to this topic which underlined and furthered our understanding of what we needed to do. This essay even though it might have been challenging, I was still able to improve myself and become a better writer. Since the Language narrative, you could tell that my writing skills had gotten better. Due to the help of the teacher and office, I understood that this course is made to challenge the students in many ways in which they can improve themselves and become better writers.
The year was finally ending, but we still had so much work to do. Our focus on stage #3 was the research essay final. In this work of literature, you had to do your research on any selected topic you may be interested in and draft a five-page essay. When pause #3 began we started focusing on how to draft a research essay along with useful skills and tools you’ll need to be successful. We went over tips and utilities you’ll need in your essay to make it more coherent and understandable. In this stage, the student must research their own selected topic and then draft a five-page essay diving into their topic and backing up what they say with scholarly sources. By this point in the course, I have already made huge improvements because if you compare the earlier version of myself the me now would completely outshine the old me, and for this, I want to thank that teacher for making me push my limits and bettering myself.
Lastly, I would recommend this course to every single student who wants to become a better writer and improve their writing ability. In this course the students strengthen their writing comprehension skills along with their ability to dive into many distinct types of essays. The teacher is extremely outgoing and makes the students enjoy the class along with making them become better writers in the process. For instance, this course opened my mind to different scenarios going on in the world and how they affect those in society. I became a better writer and if I can, you can too.
